Academic work · Universitat de València
Context
A final degree project in Modern Languages and Literatures at the Universitat de València, supervised by Paolino Nappi in the 2024–2025 academic year.
Approach
- A qualitative historical-comparative design, using the same domains — education, administration and the press — to examine both countries.
- Comparison of language models and debates associated with Manzoni and Ascoli in Italy, and Bello and Sarmiento in Chile.
- Reading literary, normative and journalistic material in its political and educational context.
What the work produced
A comparative dissertation examining how different institutional and cultural conditions shaped the establishment of national language standards.
Connection to interpreting
Language choices carry institutional and cultural meaning. Understanding that context is part of understanding a message before carrying it into another language.
